Making Search Good
October 23, 2008 |
INSPIRED BY GOOD Magazine’s recent project GOOD Business, the Quality In Search blog is going through a bit of an overhaul. Say ‘Quality In Search 2.0′… I will continue to address Search Engine Marketing Operational Excellence with the addition of discussing ideas of ‘Making Search Good’.
GOOD Business focuses on Triple Bottom Line companies who are in business to first make a difference and then make a profit - ‘People, Planet and Profit’. After reading Larry R. Smith’s article ‘The Triple BottomTop Line’ (Quality Progress 2004) I agree that the principles of sustainable, great work is tied directly to simple, fundamental quality practices. Making Search Good, making it simple, sustainable and highly effective in the most efficent way is part of my extended focus. Reducing energy dependence, carbon footprints and giving something back is the other part.
So what does the Quality In Search ‘overhaul’ include? For starters I’ve updated the masthead. I know enough about how to use Adobe Illustrator to be dangerous so this version of the masthead will probably go through a couple of versions before I settle on something I like. I also plan on searching for a new Wordpress Theme. I am leaning towards WP Remix - If anyone has an opinion on that I’d welcome your thoughts.
Beyond the asthetics, I have have set up this blog to be Carbon Neutral through the Moveneutral.com site. This allows me to reduce the carbon emissions from the blog through carbon off-setting. I am also in the process of moving the blog to DreamHost which I understand to be one of the leading ‘green’ hosting services available. Again, if anyone has an opinion here please let me know.
In addition to the backend details I have recently joined the Sustainble Business Network of Greater Philadelphia. SBN is a a nonprofit network of local triple-bottom-line businesses and social entrepreneurs and a founding member of North America’s Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) (”bah-lee”), a national alliance of local business networks in North America who are building living economies in their regions. As part of my commitment to joining the SBN I am offering free Google AdWords assessments to registered 503(c)(3) non-profit organizations.
This may not seem like a revolutionary or innovative step in Search, but I feel it is an important one. Making Search Good can only lead to greater. long lasting possibilities.
